An Iranian lawmaker says the recent US anti-Iran allegations will cost Washington dearly and demands an official apology from the administration of Barack Obama.

Ali Aqazadeh Dafsari, a member of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told Fars News Agency on Monday that Iran has lodged an official compliant at the UN against Washington over the false accusations claiming that Tehran plotted to assassinate the Saudi Arabian envoy.

He added that the latest anti-Iran claims are part of Iranophobia projects pursued by the US, and meant to feed Israeli-backed media.

Aqazadeh Dafsari said Americans have not been able to support their allegations against Iran and their accusations were aimed at diverting world public opinion from the anti-corporatism protests in the US.

In a recent letter to the US government, Iran has insisted that American authorities must publicly apologize to the Iranian government and its citizens for the false accusations they leveled against Tehran in violation of international rules and regulations.

In the letter, the Iranian government also demanded compensation for material and moral damages caused by the American anti-Iran propaganda campaign.

The letter has been handed over to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran which represents US interests in Iran since Tehran and Washington severed diplomatic relations in 1980.
